Lawns to Loaves wheat growing workshop

We are welcoming new growers to participate in this year’s Lawns to Loaves collaborative wheat farm.

If you want to grow wheat this year – this workshop is for you! Learn from experienced urban grain growers, and leave with wheat to plant. The wheat will be pooled at harvest time for processing and eating. Join other growers from across the city; teachers, students, bakers, community members like you!

Saturday April 21 10am-11:30am

Free

At the ecopavilion in the Strathcona Community Garden

Check out these photos from last year’s harvest celebration.

Be sure and check out the map link to the workshop location – as it can be tricky to find.

Get involved!

Do you want to plant a patch of grain this year? If you’d like to get involved with the Lawns to Loaves initiative, contact us by emailing lawnstoloaves@gmail.com

We’ll be meeting this spring for a wheat planting information session, then it’s time to get planting.

Everyone is invited to participate, last year community members, students, teachers, bakers and kids grew over 50 pounds of urban wheat! Most of the grains were pooled together, and after processing them we enjoyed baking them into the best pizzas some had ever eaten! This is a great chance to learn about where food comes from and have fun while doing it.
